Reduce Abuse Program – Supporting women and girls facing domestic violence
This award-winning program has supported women and girls facing domestic violence for over 20 years, with a focus on raising awareness, advocacy, and implementing preventative measures to reduce domestic abuse through educational and awareness activities. ehcw empowers women by providing access to essential resources, preparing them for employment, and offering opportunities to learn trade skills and secure jobs. Through a holistic approach, Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women addresses the unique challenges these women face, helping them regain control of their lives and become self-sufficient.

- Job readiness/life skills workshops
- Financial Literacy workshops
- Training
- Referrals for legal and specific needs
- Referrals to employers
- Food/clothing
- Furniture support
ehcw’s Reduce Abuse Program:
- Breaks the systemic, psychological and socio-economic barriers by educating girls and women on rights and emergency plans towards taking precautionary measures to live in safety
- Brings girls from diverse groups in training, learning and bringing forward community issues on gender-based teen violence by looking at relevant barriers and community support systems that are available
We are grateful to Executive Director of Jane & Finch Community Legal Clinic, Noland Merrick for his contribution in assisting clients facing domestic violence, with their legal issues.
FOCUS REXDALE and FOCUS BLACK CREEK weekly meetings continue to address high risk cases in the community, a significant number of cases are of women facing domestic violence. Full wrap around services are given to women visiting ehcw.
